Wedding Gowns to Suit All Shapes and Sizes

Choosing a silhouette is very important to the look and fit of the gown.  Different silhouettes can compliment your shape or exaggerate your flaws.  It is best to take a girlfriend or family member along with you when trying on wedding gowns to see what particular silhouette suits your individual body shape.  Advice on choosing a silhouette for different body shapes is below.

Choosing the Silhouette
What is the Silhouette and why is it so important?  Silhouette refers to the overall cut of a gown. It’s the most vital element to focus on, because a gown’s shape is its foundation – it’s what sets the mood for the entire garment.  The fitted bodice and full bell-shaped skirt of the ball gown, for example, gives a princess-like presence. More form-fitting styles like the A-line and sheath, offer a different appeal. The A-line elongates the line of the body, adding the sheath ups the ante on wedding-dress sex appeal, creating a sleek and modern option for the more daring.  While the sheath ups the ante on wedding-dress sex appeal, creating a sleek and modern option for the more daring bride.

The Ball Gown
The most traditional of all shapes, the ball gown is typified by a fitted bodice and natural or dropped waistline that leads to a very full skirt.  Pleats or gathers in the skirt are what make it a ball gown.

GOOD FOR: skinny minnies (adds curves) and pear shapes (the skirt hides everything).

BAD FOR: the petite (the excess fabric can overwhelm tiny frames) and those with a lot on top (you might end up looking round).

The Sheath
A modern sexier take on the traditional wedding gown, the sheath is characterised by a slim profile that closely follows the curves of the body.   This style is characterized by a low waistline that is generally V or U-shaped, beginning several inches below the waist. Petite brides may want to consider other shapes as this style may create a shorter appearance.

GOOD FOR: the tall and thin as well as the slim and petite (the lean shape adds length). This shape is great for taller brides who are looking to create an hourglass appearance with the low waistline.  Recommended for: taller brides, large hips, hourglass, pear shape figure.

BAD FOR: anyone who feels like they have something to hide    (we repeat: lean shape).   Not recommended for: petite brides.

The A-line
As its name implies, the A-line cut is narrow at the top, cut close to the ribcage, and extends out along the body in the shape of a triangle (or ‘A’) in a smooth, elongated line. It is perhaps the most popular skirt option, as it looks wonderful on a variety of body types. The lines of the skirt are always clean and ungathered, but there is, as always, a number of versions. The princess cut is exemplified by vertical seams travelling from the bust to the hem.  Another take is the circle skirt, a very wide A-line with a full skirt.

GOOD FOR: most body types.
BAD FOR: almost no one.

What to wear when trying on gowns
It is advisable to wear your chosen lingerie for your wedding day when trying on wedding gowns. Why is this so important?  It makes a big difference to the fit and look of the gown.  You may choose a push up bra, a reducer bra or a corset but will this suit your gown choice?  Wearing your chosen lingerie when trying on the different gowns will show you how the different silhouettes fit your body shape.  When you pick up your gown you will not be stressed because the gown fits differently to when you originally tried it on.

Inexpensive Wedding Gowns

After you have tried on various wedding gowns to see what silhouette suits your body shape now armed with your knowledge go online and check out wedding dress websites for gowns with similar silhouettes.  You can purchase quality inexpensive wedding gowns for your special day online. If You can have wedding dresses custom made at very affordable prices.  If you are not sure email the business to see what they can offer.  These days it is very easy to have a plus size wedding dress made in a range of elegant styles and colours.

What to Avoid

When looking to buy a wedding gown or to have one custom made do not advise your measurements while you are on a diet.  This will be a very disappointing experience for you. Your Body shapes change while dieting or you may not lose as much weight as you were aiming for.  Best to diet before looking for a wedding gown and then to maintain your weight after purchasing or organizing to have a custom wedding gown made.

Also avoid putting on weight after your measurements have been taken for your gown or you have purchased your wedding gown.  It would be very upsetting to have a gown custom made that did not fit when it arrived.  You cannot return the gown for a refund as when gowns are custom made they are made to your measurements supplied at the time of purchase.

Wedding Gowns : Tips for Choosing the Right Silhouette, Neckline and More

Many brides have been dreaming of their wedding day since childhood. If this sounds like you, you’ll want to pick a wedding gown that has just the right silhouette, neckline and generally flattering features for your body type. Consider the following wedding gown styles and some popular dresses in those styles.

Wedding Gown Necklines

1. Off-the-shoulder : A bold wedding gown style, the off-the-shoulder look is perfect for brides who want to show off a golden tan and toned arms. One popular style by Priscilla of Boston is the silk, satin one-shoulder ball gown with hand-pleated drop-waist, which is accented with crystal encrusted blooming flowers. It is available in ivory and white.

2. Strapless : A classic style choice, the strapless wedding gown is often a favorite for brides to be. A top seller is a linen gown with an empire waist and modified column skirt, adorned with dimensional Venice lace flower appliqués. You might also love the jewel style strapless wedding gowns, a chiffon empire sweetheart slim gown with diagonal bust and bodice pleats that blend softly into a cascading skirt.

3. Sweetheart : Sweetheart wedding gowns feature a low-cut neckline in the shape of a heart, which works great on brides wishing to show a tasteful hint of cleavage. This style is also available with or without straps. Hands down, one of the most beautiful gowns in this style is the strapless silk organza gown with a dropped waist that becomes a soft skirt overflowing with petals.

4. Spaghetti Strap : If you’re looking for subtle straps appropriate for all seasons, the spaghetti strap is a perfect wedding gown choice. A top selection for brides in this style is a textured organza and tulle strapless wedding gown, which is adorned with an Art Deco inspired crystal belt and a full skirt draped with an organza swag.

5 Scoop : A scoop style wedding gown has a U-shaped neckline and continues to the back of your dress. Perhaps the most romantic scoop style wedding gown is the silk taffeta cap sleeve ball gown, featuring a ruched bodice, deep and rich pleating in the skirt and side seam pockets.

6 Tank : The tanks style features a short, sleeveless top and looks great on most body types. While the tank style may sound like a simple, basic look, there are actually many tank style gowns that are quite extravagant. For instance, the strapless silk satin ball gown is quite dramatic, especially with its softly curved crystal encrusted V-neckline, bias draped waistband and pleated full skirt.

7 Halter : The halter style wedding gown provides quite a voluptuous look, with its sleeveless bodice that wraps around the neck. Perhaps the most stunning dress in this style is the silk taffeta strapless ball gown with removable halter straps and a bodice adorned with a vintage inspired layout along the sweetheart neckline.

8 Cap Sleeve : Cap sleeves are very short sleeves that are generally more rounded to bare a bride’s shoulders. A comfortable, elegant choice in this style is the taffeta short dress with bateau neckline, short sleeves and all over floral motif.

9 V-neck : To emphasize your chest with this plunging neckline, there are two top dresses to consider. First, the strapless silk satin ball gown with softly curved crystal encrusted V-neckline, bias draped waistband and pleated full skirt is a simply stunning choice. Also, look at a lace veiled wedding gown with organza V-neckline, illusion embellished straps and a waist sash.

Wedding gown silhouettes

1. A-line: An A-line or princess shape style wedding gown has vertical seams flowing from the shoulders down to a flared skirt. One elegant new arrival is the Garza sleeveless A-line gown with V-neckline, horizontally ruched midriff and soft flowing skirt decorated with embroidery.

2. Empire: Brides who are looking for a high waistline with a slimmer style skirt will love the empire silhouette wedding gown. For shimmer and shine, the perfect wedding gown is a silk satin strapless A-line gown with deep V-neckline and double skirt.

3. Ball Gown: Want to look like Cinderella on your wedding day? If so, the ball gown is your dress. While a classic gown, the modern silk razmir A-line gown with tip-of-the-shoulder jeweled sleeves, draped bodice and covered buttons down the back is a gorgeous gown sure to make you look like a princess.

4. Dropped Waist: Dropped waist wedding dresses are simply the most flattering wedding gown for brides with a fuller waistline. Consider the taffeta V-neckline ball gown with criss-cross pleats through the bodice, intricate bead layout at its natural waist and finely pleated full skirt. which offers a classic, flattering look.

5. Fit-to-Flare/Trumpet: Similar to the mermaid silhouette, the trumpet silhouette flares out higher on the skirt. For a romantic, Victorian look, try the organza gown with flounced halter neckline and open back.

On your wedding day, you want to wear the perfect wedding gown, so with this guide in hand, you’ll surely choose the perfect fit to make you feel good and look sensational.

How to select a Wedding Gown Preservation Company

How to select a Wedding Gown Preservation Company

Find out what you need to know to select the best wedding dress preservation company for your personal use.

Ask your local bridal salon who they use to preserve wedding gown. Then go online and know the process that this company uses to preserve wedding dress. Get a print of their process. Rinse and repeat for other companies.

Now, compare the prints that you have and choose the company who is using proper method to preserve you wedding gown.

When selecting a dry cleaner, you will need to know which solvents your local cleaner uses, or if he sends bridal gowns out, which solvent the wholesale dry cleaner uses.

Select a dry cleaner that uses distilled solvent to clean wedding dresses. Because garment cleaned in dirty solvent will have a dry clean smell.

A good dry cleaner will use virgin solvent on all wedding gowns. A clean wedding dress must not smell like cleaning solvent.

Wet Cleaning – Some dry cleaners use wet cleaning for their bridal gowns. This method uses only water and has several advantages.

Dry Cleaning – There are four solvent commonly used in cleaning wedding dresses and that are: Perchloroethylene, Stoddard solvent, Hydrocarbon, and Silicone.

Let’s talk about each of them below:

1. Perchloroethylene – Commonly known as Perc. This is the most widely used solvent by all dry cleaners and it is the best solvent for degreasing for silk, rayon, or acetate and dirt.

2. Stoddard solvent – This solvent is harder to find and is petroleum-based solvent. This solvent cannot be used in strip mall type dry cleaning shops, because of fire regulations. This solvent is safer for cleaning dresses with sequins and beads than Perchloroethylene.

3. Hydrocarbon – This is a newly formulated petroleum based solvent. This is also safer for beads and sequins like Stoddard solvent. However, it is not quite effective at degreasing.

4. Silicone – Silicone solvent is not as aggressive as Perchloroethylene. But it is safer for beads and sequins like Hydrocarbon. Also, it is most environment friendly solvent.

To do proper wedding gown preservation, following should be included. hand inspection upon receiving the gown, hand clean the hem and top of bodice, note any stains, treat all stains with proper solutions, treat the dress for sugar stains, dry-clean the dress, re-inspect the dress, hand press and hand steam the dress, place the dress on a bust form, place in a special acid free wedding gown storage box using acid free tissue, place the storage/display box in a shipping box and ship to you.

Experience is almost certainly the most significant factor to consider choosing the dry cleaner. Check with your local bridal shops to see whom they use and recommend.

If your dress and lining are polyester, with or without beads and sequins, wet cleaning should be safe and will get your dress the cleanest. Check the label carefully, and look dry, clean sink Label ID or limit the amount of water. If you are unsure, test clean the visible part of the dress. You should be able to safely hand wash most suits if you care polyester.

How to begin preserving your Wedding Gown?

Your wedding gown is a lifelong reminder of your happy marriage that you deserve. And thus, you had better take the correct steps to preserve your wedding gown after your wedding day in order to make it intact in the coming days. If you deal with wedding gown carelessly, there are many consequences such as stains setting, the gown yellow and the fabric damage.

A wedding gown, preserved in superior condition can be passed on to the coming generations as a family heirloom. And that is why you must know how to preserve your beautiful wedding gown after the wedding.

Read on to know how to do it…

1. Soon after the wedding ceremony check your wedding gown for stains and write down on a piece of paper so you can tell the cleaner specifically about the stains spot. Stains can be in the form of a blotch of lipstick, drop of wine or some food.

2. Don’t give your wedding gown for cleaning to ordinary dry cleaner; instead choose a professional dry cleaner in your area who specializes in cleaning and preserving wedding gowns. To find professional dry cleaner, you can take the help of friends or you can ask the bridal shop where you purchased the wedding gown. Or, if you decided to do-it-yourself, you can buy a wedding gown preservation kit easily available in market. But remember that you choose the right wedding gown preservation package. I can recommend you… http://www.gownspreservations.com.

3. Always carry your wedding gown in a bag, which came with your wedding gown. When you take your wedding gown to the cleaner, carry it in wedding gown bag.

4. Buy unbleached and non-dyed cotton sheet which has very little synthetic fiber. Prior to using the cotton sheet wash it in lukewarm water in order to make it dirt free. Remember… never use any detergent to wash the cotton sheet.

5. Wrap the wedding gown in this cotton sheet and then put it inside the plastic bag in a flat position to the time the gown delivered to a professional dry cleaner.

6. Tell your cleaner about the stains you have note down earlier while delivering wedding gown for cleaning.

7. Also, tell the dry cleaner about the ornaments that are glued on wedding gown as these pieces tend to fall off during the cleaning process. This little information can guarantee that your cleaner gives your dress the best care possible.

8. Ask dry cleaner to pack your wedding gown in acid-free tissue paper after the dry cleaning.

9. Place top-quality acid-free tissue papers in between the wedding gown folds so that the dress does not get permanent wrinkles.

10. If you wedding gown carries fabric covered metal buttons, pins and sponge padding then store them separately as metal can get oxidized in due course of time and may leave stains on the fabric.

11. Use a vacuum sealed storage box to store the wedding gown and keep it in a dry place, away from dirt, smoke and direct sunlight.

12. Examine your wedding gown from time-to-time to check for any new stain or discolored areas and to allow your gown to breathe.

For the past 30 years, brides across the country have enjoyed our respected wedding dress cleaning and preservation services.
