Best Outdoor Adventure Hints: Getting the Most Out Of Your Hiking and Camping Gear

Enjoying quality time with nature is a priceless gift for the outdoor enthusiast. Here are some ways to get the most out of your hiking and camping gear – and your outdoor wilderness experience.

- Purchase the best survival and adventure gear you can possibly afford. If you are willing to spend months carefully planning your next vacation adventure, spending hours getting into great hiking shape, take three weeks off from work for you camping experience, purchase an airline ticket, and so forth – then why are you using the least expensive backpack and hiking boots you can find? A good pair of hiking boots and socks will make all the difference in the world. This applies to all of your camping gear. Whether it’s your GPS unit, rafting gear, sleeping bag, rain gear or dual-fuel portable stove, set your budget to carry the best outdoor equipment you can afford – in order to get the most value for your money.

- Get comfortable using all of your safety and survival equipment and practice using it the correct way. It is not the time to start learning how to navigate with a compass and map after you are already lost. It’s not the time to learn how to start a fire with a 6 year old flare you’ve been carrying forever in your pack. It’s not time to learn about safe rafting and best survival practices after you’re in danger. Put aside some time to learn about all the features of your camping gear before you head out to your favorite campground. You might be surprised to learn how incredible your GPS really is, once you understand how to use the backtrack feature. You will also be mighty thankful when you learn the proper weight distribution for your backpack. Take time to learn about your camping gear – practice around your home before you venture into the great outdoors.

- Your camping gear isn’t just for outdoor adventure – keep your gear with you and use it as much as possible. It has unlimited uses in your daily life. Never go on a road trip without your outdoor pack. In all likelihood, you’ll find an opportunity to use your camping – hiking – survival equipment close to home. It never fails – if you don’t have your camping gear with you, you will need it.

- Take pride and take care of your outdoor gear. Hopefully you’ve learned this from your parents and not necessarily from experience. Take good care of your camping gear, and the camping gear will take good care of you! If you’re careless with your gear, it will let you down when you need it the most. That’s one adventure you can do without. Carefully inspect each piece of your outdoor equipment – hiking, rafting, camping, safety and survival gear before you embark on your wilderness adventure. Upon your return, clean and properly store all of your camping gear. Make a habit of periodically checking your gear’s safety straps, fuel, waterproofing, batteries and overall condition. Taking good care of your outdoor equipment is an important part of enjoying your hiking, rafting and/or camping trip.

- When you’re done with your camping gear, donate it – and some of your time – to a local scout troop. Your local youth scouting groups are always on the lookout for a helping hand from outdoor enthusiasts. You will feel great satisfaction knowing that your trusty old gear will help benefit others!

Optimize your time in the back country wilderness. The easiest way to ensure maximum outdoor enjoyment is to get the best possible value from your gear. Let these hints guide you in getting the most out of your outdoor recreational equipment – and your outdoor wilderness experience.

In conclusion, selecting an online recreational equipment store can be fun, but it’s important to do your research prior to selecting where you will ultimately make your purchase.

Using an outdoor garden swing or patio canopy swing

Monday, 21. March 2011

Using an outdoor garden swing or patio canopy swing

One way that you can enjoy your garden is to use an outdoor garden swing.  You can put a patio canopy swing in your garden or your patio and sit out and relax in the sunshine, enjoy the fruits of your labor.

If you find that you are stressed out after a hard day at work, or from daily pressures of life, you can alleviate that pressure by peacefully sitting in an outdoor garden swing and watching the birds, the flowers and your garden. You can take a book and relax in the swing that you can equip with cushions to make it even more comfortable.  This can give you the stress break that you need for the day.

A patio canopy swing is one way that you can really enjoy nature as well without having to worry about the sun beating down on you.  This is similar to a porch swing, only it is not on a porch.  You can place such a swing in any area where there is level ground.  While some people will use an outdoor garden swing on a patio or a deck, others place them right in the garden.  This can also be the focal point of a garden and a place where people go to seek tranquility and get away from it all.

Porch swings have been popular for well over 100 years.  But until recently, they were possible only for people with porches.  This was often a way to spend an evening relaxing, or sitting in the day and entertaining neighbors.  As life began to get more stressful, and houses did not contain large porches any longer, many people began to forgo this way to relax.

Fortunately, you can get a patio canopy swing without having to have a front porch in which to put it.  You can put the swing anywhere that is flat and enjoy gently moving back and forth as you are relaxing, entertaining or even reading a book.  Most people today complain that they do not get enough time to relax, although an outdoor garden swing is the perfect solution for this problem.

You can place these swings anywhere. The canopies on such swings protects you from the sun and the glare and enable you to enjoy the slow movement of the swing without having to have porch.  If you have a patio, this is the perfect way to compliment your outdoor furniture.  You can get an outdoor garden swing to match current outdoor furniture.

A patio canopy swing can stay outdoors even in the cold weather and become the perfect retreat in the warm and climate weather.  This can be a place where you can seek solitude when you just need some time for yourself, or the center of your entertaining.  You can buy these swings from online dealers that specialize in outdoor furniture that is quality made and built to last.  You can look for a patio canopy swing online and put it into your garden once you get it shipped to you.  You will find that you use it increasingly as it is the best way to relax outdoors.

If you want to get an Outdoor Garden Swing then you can go online and select one from the wide choice available at Cedar Furniture Outlet. You can also get a Patio Canopy Swing shipped right to your door so you don’t have to experience any inconvenience at all!

Three Ways to look at outdoor led lighting by LED Retrofit

Three Ways to look at outdoor led lighting by LED Retrofit

When it comes to outdoor lighting, one can opt for LED retrofit and can use outdoor LED lighting. Now one may wonder what’s the benefit of using LED lights and why are they gaining so much popularity these days. But when we look deeper and study the advantages of LED retrofitting then even we would see that using the LED lights at your home can turn out to be a good change.

The normal lights that we use for outdoor lighting take up a lot energy which leads to increased electricity bills. This can lead to increase in cost and leads to depletion of energy. If we switch to outdoor led lighting then we can look forwards to a reduction in the electricity bill. This is because the LED bulbs use little energy as compared to the incandescent bulbs or the CFL bulbs. This is one of the main reasons that can help you understand how retrofitting is beneficial.

Another benefit of using the LED bulbs for outdoor lighting is these lights can last for 75,000 hours. On the other hand, the normal incandescent bulbs and the CFL bulbs do not have such a long life and need to be replaced in every few months. This leads to extra overhead charges. On the other hand, since LED lasts for many years, the overhead cost is reduced and one does not have to worry about the maintenance charges.

When it comes to environment then again the LED bulbs are preferred over the normal bulbs. The latter not only uses lot of energy but also emits lead, carbon and heat which is harmful for the environment and increases the pollution level. On the other hand the LED lights are environment friendly as they do not emit any pollutants and heat. This helps us to reduce our carbon footprints.

The outdoor LED lighting is especially very useful in industrial units or commercial units. Opting for LED retrofits can help them to bring down the costs and reduce the overhead charges and can thus help in reducing the cost of production. Thus there are a number of benefits of opting for the LED retrofit.

Many companies are now providing with led retrofitting and have different kinds of lighting with them. For instance, Energy Smart Industry which deals in LED retrofitting, offers customized lighting solutions and offer stylish landscape LED lights, garden lights, bollard lights, projector lights and other kinds of fittings.

If you are worried about the installation charges then you can choose companies that offer flexible plans. There are zero out of pocket expense programs wherein you can get the LEDs installed at no extra cost and have the flexibility to pay back from the savings that are incurred on the electricity bills.

Nowadays many of the commercial and residential buildings are also opting for LED Retrofit. They are not only using them in the building but in the gardens and for billboards as well. It is a great way to save your environment and helps in reducing the expenses.

Energy Smart Industry brings Outdoor LED Lighting program with no out of pocket expense. Energy Smart Industry’s Green Lease Management Program (GLMP) is a unique system designed for LED retrofit for your industrial units or commercial units.

Tips For Outdoor Xmas Decorations Part 1

Have you just laid a beautiful backdrop with nice strips, wired lights, candles and other assortments for your outdoor Xmas decorations? Well if you have, then don’t stop at that because there are so much more you can do to clothe your house from the outside.

The great thing about outdoor decorations is that you can see your beautiful work from far, and strangers or neighbours driving past will definitely marvel at your masterpiece. Let us discuss more advanced decorations you can do to your yard.

Once you get your base of colors going around your house walls and doors, the next simplest thing you can do is to add a warm Welcome Home Sign above your door or at your gate. A sign is simple enough to make, requiring only some basic tools such as a jigsaw and file. As for materials, you can pick normal plywood that is common in super marts as they are cheap and resistant to the elements.

To make your sign, take out your piece of plywood and draw cutting lines with pencil. Once you measure out your desired size, you can cut along those lines with your jigsaw in a straightforward manner without much difficulty. For easier cutting, put a block of wood on your plywood core and align your jigsaw so that it is pressing against the block. This is to ensure you get a clean cut. Any jagged edges can then be filed away to your satisfaction.

Once that is done, you can start making your actual words with small wired lights that are battery operated. These are again easily available in Christmas stores and are pretty affordable so take your pick of colors. You can also mix in glossy marker paints and glitter dust for more design variety.

When finished, attach a small rope to your sign and leave it hanging above your door or on your gate. That’s it! Another little work of art done for Christmas!

Indoor And Outdoor LED Christmas Lightings – Several Fundamental Rules Will Help Out Very Much

Indoor And Outdoor LED Christmas Lightings – Several Fundamental Rules Will Help Out Very Much

Outside LED Christmas lights are the cherries on a cake when it comes to setting the scene for the festive season. Twinkling lights in the snow on a clear, dark night can make your house appear inviting and create an amazing welcome for all your holiday friends and visitors.

It is easy to get wrapped up in the excitement of the season though, and, like many other homeowners, attempt to install LED Christmas lights and decorations without much thought to safety. But, each year there’re a significant number of fires in the home as a result of faulty lights or their inappropriate use. Thus it’s critical to know what you’re doing when placing your lights up, otherwise the holiday season could be one you remember for all the wrong reasons. Following several fundamental rules will help:

There’re two types of decorative lighting options: indoor and outdoor LED Christmas lights. Rule number one is to always use the appropriate lights for a specific environment and never be tempted to take shortcuts. While you may think that the lights you have just bought would look nice hanging in your dining room, specially when the family are seated for Christmas dinner, do not use them if they’re labeled “For external use only.”

Before putting your lights up, ensure that all leads are free from damage. This is especially vital if your lights are old and have been used many times over. Replace any faulty bulbs with the same types of bulbs and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Keep lights out of the reach of young children, and always turn your Christmas tree lights off before going to bed. Make sure that all outside LED Christmas lights are weatherproof and use extra low voltage equipment, especially if hanging lights on fences and roofs. If your lights are gonna be installed near any gutters, ensure that they are cleared of leaves.

Secure all lighting devices to avoid damage in strong winds, and turn off your external lighting in stormy or rainy weather conditions. Keep electrical leads clear of walkways and driveways and avoid passing leads via windows and doors.

If you plan on having a sophisticated lighting display whether it be using indoor or outdoor LED Christmas lights, or are responsible for arranging the festive lighting for a number of buildings, it’s best to call in the experts.

Not only will an expert electrical contractor set up your whole lighting system for you, but he or she will also be able to recommend you on what lighting display will work greatest given your present electrical wiring system. An expert electrical contractor will also maintain your lighting display all over the season, and dismantle it when the festivities are over. All you have to do then is sit back with the rest of the family and enjoy the view – with the peace of mind that the only disasters you will have to contend with during the holidays will be the regular family kind!

Take the time this year to plan and perform a safe and happy holiday for your family, friends and neighbors by being diligent with your indoor and outdoor LED Christmas lights. Cheers to you and your family!

How To Make Outdoor Xmas Decorations Part 2

How To Make Outdoor Xmas Decorations Part 2

In the first part of my Outdoor Xmas Decorations tips, I’ve introduced the fine idea of a Welcome Home signboard. While that is a nice little addition, I bet you’ll find your yard still kind of empty and lacking in something. Fret not, as this article was written to give you even more ideas on outdoor Xmas decorations.

We are now going to do a little something to the yard area, and what more appropriate decorations are there than a snowman? If you are thinking that it’s too early to snow or you live in a tropical country, don’t worry as we are actually going to make a handicraft snowman instead.

The best material for making snowmen is particle board. Although flat in thickness, joining them together in a cross like fashion can give a close 3D feel and that is good enough. Particle board is chosen mainly because it is cheap and extremely easy to work with. Particle board is also pretty resistant and can stand up to punishment from the weather so shop for at least two big ones in your local DIY store.

The first thing you need to do is to mark out your cutting lines. Use big round objects or a big compass to help you trace three overlapping circles of different sizes on the first board, with the biggest circle forming the base. Once done, take your second board and mark only one circle.

Be sure to leave the base of the both boards flat so it can stand. Use your saw or knife to cut along marked lines for both boards. You should now have two boards, one with a full body of three circles (your main board) and a second one with only one big circle at its base (the support board).

Read Part 3 of this series to learn how to assemble and decorate your snowman!

Outdoor Christmas Lighting | Outdoor Christmas Lighting Ideas

What’s Christmastime without a bit of decorative lighting sprinkled everywhere? Ah, the houses have to be bright enough for Santa Claus to maneuver his sleigh in the nighttime sky to the right houses and shove himself into the chimney, all laden with gifts! But, keeping Santa aside, the lights bring on a festive charm like nothing else can. Outdoor Christmas lights proclaim to all passers-by that you are celebrating the joy of the season. Your lights must definitely match this feeling of joy.Christmas lights come in several different forms, and you will really be confounded if you visit a store selling these lights. There are the basic round colored bulbs that have been used traditionally, but then there are many fancy shapes available nowadays. This year’s favorites seem to be the pearly bulbs, which are actually shaped round like pearls and given a glossy sheen on their outward surface to make them seem more so. Heart shaped bulbs are still present, and you will also find more thematic Christmas lights such as those shaped in the form of icicles, candies, and even holly and mistletoe! Now you have to select how much length of bulb strings you will require. Do not be a Scrooge about buying these bulb strings, especially since you are going to light up the entire exterior of your house, which includes the bushes and the brambles. Bulb strings are nonperishable, so you can stock them in your loft or attic and use them the next year too. You may even experiment with the same bulbs to give a wholly different look to the decoration. Anyways, you will be requiring adequate length to at least cover the front side of your house twice over. Add a few feet of bulb string to cover up for those unavoidable folds and knots you might have to make. If you are dressing up the bushes with outdoor Christmas lights too, then take good-sized length, because bushes have an undesirable habit of camouflaging most of the decorative lights. You can also get cute little lights for your crib. These are the LED Christmas lights, and they come in several different colors. A favorite is to line up the surface of the crib table with a string of LED Christmas lights. You can even add a router to the string to make these lights blink on and off. LED Christmas lights can also be put on the barks of your outdoor trees and can be lined around your flowerpots outside the house. You will, of course, need a wireman to put up the electric points for you outside the house. You can do the setting up of the light strings yourself later on (that’s the creative part anyways), but let the wireman pull out a line from inside the house and provide you with the connection. This is necessary, or you might have to spend Christmastime with a hairstyle resembling that of a freshly plucked turkey. The best part is putting up the lights. You can have a whole family thing here, with each one contributing in their way. Even the kiddies can help in handing out stuff when you are perched atop the stool to put up the lights. One of the most traditional ways is to run the light string along the edges of the house, but no one says you cannot experiment. You can use the LED Christmas lights to write out small messages like ‘Season’s Greetings’ on an outdoor wall of the house. If you have a fence, try getting the new fashion pipe Christmas lights to work on the top portion of the fence. Pipe lights work wonders with picket fences. The Christmas tree holds center stage for the week leading up to Christmas and the week after it. A lot of effort and resources is expended in procuring just the right tree for your house. But the irony is that not many people know of the history behind the tree and its origins. The individual responsible for the Christmas tree was Queen Charlotte, the German-born wife of George III, the “Mad King”. On Christmas Day 1800, she held a party for the children of Windsor, the centerpiece of which was Britain’s first recorded Christmas tree, a yew decorated with sweetmeats, toys and candles. But it became something that seemed like it was the prerogative of only the Royals. It was Prince Albert who turned them into a national one by propagating it thorough the national newspaper.Decorations for the Christmas tree have evolved over the years. Initially the idea was to fill it with all kinds of ornaments and colorful items. Then came the lights. Ostentationism was well entrenched in the Christmas tree culture. Nowadays Christmas trees are used to depict a certain aspect of your life i.e. hobbies, moods, frame of mind etc. It denotes something that is positive and full of hope. A wedding or baby theme can reflect the events of the past year or the year ahead. Current interests, activities and family events can be a source of themes that will add to family memories when viewed in the photo albums in the future. The arrival of a baby can be a theme.A step – by – step approach is required when decorating the Christmas tree. The most important step is to decide on the type of tree itself. The tree is usually chosen after the buyer looks at the number of branches and the way that they are shaped. He has to feel good about the tree at the outset. If each layer of branch has a staggered appearance, the process of decoration is expedited. Most trees with a fresh cut will drink many quarts of water in the first few hours, so check the water level in your tree stand several times a day.A Wilt resistant spray that can be applied to trees before bringing them indoors that claims to keep needles fresh for several weeks. Before getting down to the task of decorating the tree it is advisable to decide on the kind of effect that needs to be achieved. Ideally two sets of lights can be used. The shorter set will spiral around the trunk of the tree from top to bottom, while the longer version will spiral around the branches. The color scheme must ensure that the tree has a minimalist but grand look to it. It would be ideal if a two color scheme was employed. It could be a green, choice between green, gold, purple and red. Place the main color on the tips of the branches and the secondary color deeper into the tree, giving depth to the display. However if the minimalist look is to be eschewed, then many ornaments can be used. At least dozen “filler” ornaments for every 2 feet of tree can be used. These can be inexpensive glass balls readily available at discount stores. There is no point decorating the back of the tree, as it will not be visible in any case. Strands of beads can be looped over the ends of the branches. If the beads have a glossy finish, it would be great as it would reflect the light all over the room. Finally at the top of the tree, the most important ornament must be added. This is something that symbolizes the spirit of Christmas, so it must be unique as well as elegant. Stars and angels have been some of the popular choices in the past. Now that the tree is made, there arises the problem of the tree stand. If the tree stand is visible it could spoil the entire display and take away the magic of the moment. It is imperative that the stand remains covered at all times.

Techniques on Installing Outdoor Christmas Lighting

There’s something about outdoor Christmas decorations that can just spark the mood for the holiday cheer. A home seem lifeless and without joy without Christmas lights. If you’re looking for the best kind of outdoor Christmas decoration, then you should try looking for outdoor Christmas lighting. Here are some great tips in shopping for and installing lights outdoors.

Price Does Matter

Fire incidents have happened due to cheap but faulty Christmas lightings. You can avoid getting these sub standard products by choosing local government standard approved products instead of dubious imported or online auction lights. Standard outdoor Christmas lighting may be a little more expensive but you should rather spend than risk burning down your property.

If you discounted outdoor Christmas lighting, buy from reputable brand names and during the off season. Buy months ahead of Christmas or days after Christmas for next season. This can help you save a bit while at the same time nit sacrificing quality.

Decide on the Kind of Lights

Christmas decorations and lightings can be in C9 or miniature. Lights that are under C9 are often seen as better options for outdoor lighting. These lights are not only bigger, they are also sturdier and emit brighter lights.

Check the Lights

Before you install outdoor Christmas lighting, make sure that the strings that you use are still in perfect working order. Plug the strings and check for bulbs that no longer light. You can easily replace bulbs by unplugging the strings and replacing the old one with a new one. Aside from checking bulbs, you should also check the wires. Finding frayed or exposed wires means that it is time to for you to buy new lights. Checking for frays is especially important if you think you have mice at home.

Provide Outlets

Outdoor Christmas lighting would usually require you several extension cords. Sometimes though, they may not be the safest especially if the extension is connected to an internal socket. This could be a cause of short circuits. Extension cords that are improperly used and connected could also cause electrocution.

If there is a need to use extensions, make sure that the ones you will be using are sturdy and safe for outdoor use. You should also have outdoor receptacles or outlets from which you can plug extensions for outdoor Christmas lighting. These receptacles should be controlled by internal switches so that you do not have to pull the plug yourself. Also, remember to have a ground fault circuit interrupter that can prevent electrocution especially on wet areas. Extensions wires for outdoor Christmas lighting should be firmly attached to the ground with the extra length of wires clipped and kept in a neat bunch. This is to prevent accidental tripping.

Take Care of Connectors

Connectors are sometimes unavoidable if one outdoor Christmas lighting string is not enough for a specific area. You should make sure though that your connectors are not too exposed and are kept away from wet areas. You can put electrical tape around the connecting line for extra precaution.
